Frequently asked questions

Do I need permits for extensions on my Vermont home?

Yes. Whitehorse City Council requires you to apply for planning and building permits before you can build any extensions or renovations. Supa Group will gladly handle this process on your behalf, so you don’t need to worry about a thing.

Can I continue to live at home during construction?

Depending on the nature of the work, you may be able to stay at home during construction. For your home to be liveable, you must have access to your bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. If our work makes those amenities inaccessible, you’ll have to move out temporarily. Before construction, we’ll give you a detailed schedule so you can make whatever alternative plans you need.

Can I choose the contractors?

We welcome any suggestions you have for contractors and specialists. To work with us, they must provide the requisite OH&S and insurance paperwork and be willing to work to our schedule.

Does Vermont allow extensions to heritage-listed homes?

Yes, you may add extensions to or renovate period homes in Vermont. All city councils have different regulations surrounding such work, but their goal is always to preserve the historical legacy and integrity of the site. We always ensure that our extension designs seamlessly blend into the existing structure so as not to diminish its period charm.
