Make your contemporary-modern home even more cool and comfortable

Contemporary-modern homes are all the rage in Melbourne at the moment. The modern family demands space and style, and contemporary designs often afford both in abundance. However, buying a contemporary-modern home is not without its drawbacks.

Chances are, that when you purchase a new home, that you have bought into someone else’s dream. By renovating or extending your contemporary-modern home, you are changing it to suit your family and lifestyle. Supa Group works with families to help the redesign and renovate contemporary-modern homes based on their preferences.

Key features of contemporary-modern homes

Melbourne has an abundance of homes built in a modern, contemporary style. They're paired right back to their essentials, based on logical design principles that eschew ornamentalism and tradition for minimalism and openness.

Open floor plans

Contemporary-style homes tend to prioritise large spaces with open floorplans. This helps with fostering a positive family atmosphere, and a sense of expansive space can even improve your mood.

Lots of glass

Modern-contemporary homes are sometimes jokingly referred to as 'glass boxes', in reference to their shape and abundance of windows. Light and visibility are celebrated in these designs, so there's often lots of glass. Other frequently used materials are steel and concrete.

Flat roofing

A flat roof is simpler, easier and cheaper to install than a pitched or domed roof. For those reasons, it is especially popular in contemporary-modern home designs. It makes for a clean, simple look.

Can I check to see if my modern home has a heritage overlay?

A heritage overlay prevents certain work being done demolishing or renovating a house. However, a contemporary home, built within the last few decades, is unlikely to have heritage overlay. There are, however, some examples of modern architecture that do have planning protection.

If you suspect that your home might be subject to restrictions from heritage overlay, we can help. Our team has extensive experience in navigating council requirements and getting the right permits.

What are the stages in a contemporary-modernist home extension?

No matter what style your home is, we follow the same process for all of our renovations and extensions.

  1. The Design Phase: Our designers will work collaboratively with you to draw up a plan to upgrade your contemporary-modern home.
  2. The Contract Preparation Phase: After bringing together all the necessary permits and documents, we will draw up contracts for the job.
  3. The Build Phase: Our excellent team of qualified tradespeople will get to work making those plans a reality.

Although the steps we carry out are the same, the renovations themselves are wildly different. We tailor our designs, contracts, and building requirements to the exact specifications of your needs and circumstances. Get in touch with some information about what you’d like to update in your contemporary-modernist home, and we’ll start the process by drawing up possible timeframes and an estimate on the quote.

Can I live in my contemporary-modern home while the renovations are taking place?

In short, yes. So long as you will still have access to amenities (your bathroom and kitchen, plus your bedroom), it’s perfectly fine to stay in residence while the construction is underway.

How much will it cost to perform renovations or extensions on my contemporary-modern home?

There’s no set answer for this question — it really depends on things like the size and scale of your designs. However, you can rest assured that the job will be competitively priced when you work with Supa Group. We go above and beyond to deliver cost-effective home extensions of excellent quality.
