Professional small builder/renovator
Melbourne's architectural landscape is studded with stunning period buildings, and modern replicas as well. But original or replicated, the unique period elements of these homes exude character. No two are ever alike.
As beloved as historical and period homes are, they often need renovations to introduce all the modern conveniences of the 21st century. They may also require extensions to accommodate growing families and work-from-home amenities. Considering their age, a comprehensive period home restoration is also a common request.
Supa Group is a full-service period home renovation and extension specialist. Whether you’re after spacious period home extensions or modernising period home renovations, our Melbourne building team can deliver.
Melburnians have a long-standing love affair with heritage architecture. The intricate period features of our historical homes suggest a rich history, which is what makes these buildings such a marvel to own and live in.
Your period home may have beautiful ceiling roses, ornate skirting boards, or architraves from the pre-World War II era.
If you look across the city, you can identify some period-style homes by their steeply pitched roofs, comprising terracotta tiles and ridge cappings, finials, dragons, and gargoyles.
Depending on when your home was built, it may feature spiral columns, boarded window shutters and balconettes, or L-shaped verandahs with timber embellishments and fretwork.

If you think your home was built prior to WWII, then it is quite possible it has a heritage overlay. In some cases, even homes built after WWII may still be protected by your local council.
Every Melbourne council has different rules and regulations relating to heritage protection. In most cases, you will just need to ensure your home's facade remains untouched. This allows you plenty of scope to upgrade the internal living spaces and backyard.
If you're unsure whether your home is protected, get in touch with our friendly team at Supa Group. We can help you work with your council's heritage overlay laws to achieve a more modern home with plenty of space and light for your growing needs.
Have a look at our recent projects to get a feel for the type of transformation you can expect in your own home. Get ideas, be inspired, and then we’ll create your perfect home.
Supa Group follows the same process for all period extension and renovation projects.
The Build Phase — we'll start constructing your designs and upgrading your home so you can experience more space, light, and style.
Yes, depending on the specifics of your project. If you can still access a bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom while we carry out building works, then you can stay in the home. But, if you can't use any of these spaces, you'll need to find alternate living arrangements until those facilities become available. If you must relocate, your Supa Group construction manager will do their best to minimise the disruption of the entire process and get you back into your home sooner.
The cost of a period home extension or renovation depends entirely on the scope of the project. When you meet with our design consultants, they'll create a detailed quote and schedule for your renovation, so you'll be aware of the costs every step of the way.
All our extensions involve extensive design and planning to make sure you get your dream home. Learn about our process in detail.
