But it is a wonky shaped council as the Dandenong Creek extends west to shape its northern boundary, and Police Road defines the southern boundary.
If you like your residential streets wide, your power lines underground, and nice street trees the suburb of Rowville may be for you. It’s a great example of an area that’s been well planned and favoured by young families.
Other suburbs in Knox includes Bayswater, Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Knoxfield, Lysterfield, Sassafreas, Scoresby, Studfield, The Basin, Upper Ferntree Gully, Wantirna and Wantirna South.
Named after Sir George Knox, (1885 – 1960), a former soldier and politician, Knox Council has a large population base along with plenty of diversity in the form of employment opportunities with lots of manufacturing businesses in the area.
And if natures your thing there’s plenty of options close by including the Churchill National Park. If you’re lucky you’ll hear the magnificent call of the Eastern Whipbird.
There’s also an abundance of sporting facilities including squash courts which are the most recently built new courts in Victoria!

Fun Fact: Venture Bus Lines services the Knox Council area. One of Melbourne’s oldest bus lines it was established in 1924 by Henry Cornwall. He had lived in Ventura County, California after his service during WW1. We should all celebrate 100 years of service to the Knox community by Ventura Bus Lines.

Whether you need a planning permit for your construction project will depend on various property development factors. However, if you plan to extend, renovate, subdivide, or undertake significant building works, you will need a building permit from a licenced building surveyor.
Planning permits ensure that your proposed building and development work follows government construction guidelines. In addition, the Knox City Council will assess the impact your construction work may have on neighbouring land, your site and the environment.
Supa Group handle all aspects of obtaining a Knox Planning Permit so you don't need to worry.
There is a standard residential fee of $123.70 (excluding GST) and an additional online application fee of $750. Beyond this baseline, other categories incur fees that need to be paid depending on the construction work and development proposed. The good news is that Supa Group include the cost of any planning and permit applications in our fixed price.
Most building works require a building permit from a licensed building surveyor before work commences. There are several key stages to the application process, including compiling paperwork such as engineering and energy assessments and submitting working drawings. As your fully registered master builders, we will manage all stages of this process efficiently and competently.
