Beautiful in its simplicity of character, this Edwardian had irresistible charm but needed more space to meet the demands of this growing family.
Second story extension to create a master bedroom with ensuite and living for the parents plus add a study area to ground floor.
Located within the streets of inner Melbourne, this Edwardian has an irresistible charm. Beautiful in its simplicity of character and located on a generous block, the home had a lot on offer.
Having previously been extended with a contemporary kitchen dining and living area plus being fully renovated this was an ideal home for this young family.
Now conditions had changed. The children had become active teenagers and parents were trying to manage their work-from-home and busy home life. This found them all vying for some extra space.
The solution was to add a second story where parents could claim a section of the home as their own. The extension design had to focus on integrating with the existing floorplan, and create new inviting spaces that were customised to the family’s needs whilst minimising the impact on the ground floor.
The result was a beautiful master bedroom with an expansive wall of Built In Robes, a stylish monochrome ensuite enhanced by the warmth of the timber vanity and a divine bathtub, a touch of luxury to soak and relax in at the end of day.
An added feature was a smart design to incorporate cavity sliding doors between the bedroom and living area that could be left open for easy living or closed for extra privacy.
On the ground floor one of the bedrooms was opened and converted into a study/home office and also made way for the stunning timber and glass staircase adding a fresh and airy ambience to the home whilst providing extra storage beneath.
Externally the aesthetics of the home was never an afterthought. Careful consideration and attention to detail was given during the 3D design phase to ensure the Edwardian's character was maintained. This sympathetic extension was perfectly proportioned and balanced with timber casement windows and latticed gables replicated to match, seamlessly blending the old with the new.
Spacious and revitalised, this timeless home is a little bit Edwardian, a little bit contemporary but wholly perfect for this family.
